The stamp duty in Mumbai has increased by one percent post the State government announced an additional percent as metro cess on property purchases, effective from April 1, 2022.
Several cities in Maharashtra are set to witness an increase in property prices as the State government has announced 1% metro cess on stamp duty, effective from April 1, 2022. An additional cess will be implemented in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, and Nagpur, to fund the growth of transport infrastructure projects. With the introduction of metro cess, the stamp duty and registration charges in Mumbai will go up to 6 percent, which was 5 percent. Similarly, in Pune and Nagpur, the introduction of metro cess will take the stamp duty to 7 percent, which was 6 percent before.
